Sydney 817 Squadron (1952) 10/10Interior: Painted in authentic color - epoxy paint 10/10History: Delivered to King George V Docks, Glasgow, Scotland on 16 October 1950 and was embarked on HMAS SYDNEY. Landed at Jervis Bay, Australia on 07 December 1950 and towed by road to RANAS Nowra. WD840 flew with 817 Squadron, then with 816 Squadron. During this time H.M.A.S. Sydney was deployed and saw combat in the Korean War. On 02 September 1952 while landing on board HMAS SYDNEY, WD840 sheared off its undercarriage on the barriers and came to rest on the carrier deck. Later it was with 851 squadron in as 272/K also as 241/K. It was converted to a Target Tower. On 08 July 1966 it was sold to Aircraft Engines Overhaul and Service, Peakhurst NSW - Tender No.12393 for $627.WD840 went through various owners in Canada and the United States before being acquired by its current owners in 2006. They commissioned Dave's Custom Sheetmetal of Heber City, Utah to rebuild WD840 to the highest standards. With the structure complete, WD840 was moved to Q.G. Aviation in Fort Collins, Colorado for completion to flight status. Q.G. Aviation have over 15 years experience with the Firefly and previously restored Firefly WB518 which is owned and operated by Capt. Eddie Kurdziel. WB518 has won many awards including the Grand Champion - Post WWII trophy at Oshkosh, Wisconsin in 2002. WD840 is now being offered for sale As Is Where Is. Q.G.
