History:

This Chipmunk, one of the very few remaining flying examples, was built under license, from the Dehavilland Company, by Gerais de Material Aeronautica(OGMA), at Alvercado do Ribatego, located approximately 15km, north of Lisbon, Portugal, of which only 60 Chipmunks, where built.

This example numbered 1317 OGMA, being Build number 7, rolled off the production line, on 24th October 1955 and served with the Portuguese Airforce, at both Aveiro and Sintra, military bases, as a Abio initial trainer, for a number of years.

With the Portuguese Airforce upgrades, during the late 1990's, over to the French built Socata TB-30 Epsilon, OGMA BUILD 1317, was gifted to Aero Clube de Portimo, registered as CS-AZM and stored, for a number of years.

From there, it eventually ended up, in the current owners hands and is Uk registered, as G-CERD in 2007.

Undergoing 5 plus years of restoration, under the carful supervision and assistance of Windmill Aviation, based at Spanhoe, who are the original UK company, working along side the Portuguese Airforce, in the upgrade/conversion of a number of Chipmunks, during the change over in 1997, to the French Epsilon aircraft.

This airworthy example, is currently UK registered, as G-CERD, painted in Uk military colours, as WK640, with full written approval, from the Royal Airforce.

All this information, is endorsed, in the written book 'The Poor Mans Spitfire', this book, The Dehavilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk, publication ISBN 978-0-9812544-0-1, which is an excellent read, for those Chipmunk enthusiasts and those people considering owning a Chipmunk.
