History
Complete History for 1940 to Present. This aircraft flew in the RCAF during WWII and was stationed at. The current owner has tracked down 17 Canadian pilots who trained in RCAF 3456 during WWII and has copies of their logbooks.
Restoration
Full restoration by Patrick Mihalek, Brighton MI
Restoration Summary: Aircraft arrived disassembled with all parts inventoried.
Fuselage: Tubular structure cleaned, media blasted and inspected via ultrasound and eddy current testing.Tubes were replaced as necessary per specifications called out in IAW NAA Drawings. Finished with epoxy primer and paint as needed. Rear fuselage section was completely disassembled, cleaned and NDT inspected.Parts replaced as necessary with NOS and new made IAW NAA Drawings. All exterior skin replaced. All hardware replaced with new. Re-assembled and finished with epoxy primer and paint as needed.
Center Section: Completely disassembled, cleaned and NDT inspected. Parts replaced as necessary with NOS and new made IAW NAA Drawings. Wing attachment angles NDT performed by Aircraft Inspection Services Inc CRS#N3DR341N under work order #B20204, all discrepancies with CS angles corrected during inspection and results found satisfactory. Stress panels were cleaned and NDT inspected and no discrepancies found. Re-assembled and finished with epoxy primer and paint as needed.
Landing Gear: Both main and tail wheel assemblies completely disassembled, cleaned and NDT inspected.Parts replaced as necessary with NOS, new seals and hardware. Landing gear re-assembled, serviced and finished with epoxy primer and paint as needed. Wheels cleaned and NDT inspected finished with epoxy primer and paint as needed. New tires and tubes installed. Solid rear tire installed. Brakes rebuilt with new hardware and shoes. Installed serviceable hydraulic master brake cylinder PN:25-33402-30 SN:3052.
Engine Mount: Installed repaired engine mount PN 23-21901 SN L3489A with new attach hardware. Repairsperformed by Loree Air Inc. CRS#ZUVR061J W.O. #3489.
Control Group: Control Sticks, Rudder Pedals, Throttle Quadrant, Control Lock, Pulley Brackets all completely disassembled, cleaned and NDT inspected. Parts replaced as necessary with NOS and new made IAW NAA Drawings. All hardware replaced with new. All parts and assemblies re-assembled and finished with epoxy primer and paint as needed.
Finishing Group: Seats, Floor Boards, Canopy Assemblies, Fairings, Side Panels. Parts replaced as necessary with NOS and new made IAW NAA Drawings. All hardware replaced with new. All parts and assemblies re-assembled and finished with epoxy primer and paint as needed. Installed 3” Style Military Seat belts PN:3011830 x2 1 ¾” Shoulder Harness PN:1Y563030-3D x2 Crotch Straps PN:1CS924-D x2.
Tail Group: The vertical and both horizontal stabilizers were cleaned and NDT inspected. Parts replaced asnecessary with NOS and new made IAW NAA Drawings. All hardware replaced with new. Assemblies re-assembled and finished with epoxy primer and paint as needed.
Control Surfaces: The rudder, both elevators and aileron structures were cleaned and NDT inspected. Parts replaced as necessary with NOS and new made IAW NAA Drawings. All hardware replaced with new. Surfaces re-assembled and finished with Poly Fiber primer as needed. All surfaces Re-covered in Poly Fiber systems IAW Poly Fiber Manual.
Wing Group: Both wings cleaned and NDT inspected. Wings were opened up for inspection. Parts replaced as necessary with NOS and new made IAW NAA Drawings. All hardware replaced with new. Wing attachment angles NDT performed by Aircraft Inspection Services Inc CRS#N3DR341N under work order #B20204, all discrepancies with outboard angles corrected during inspection and results found satisfactory. LH & RH upper wing attachment angles replaced with new ones produced by Aircraft Extrusions Co. PN C142, Lot#181851-1WO181851 COC003413 and shaped by Historic Aircraft Restoration PTY LTD. Wings re-assembled and attachment angles matched drilled, debured and installed. Finished with epoxy primer and paint as needed.
Instruments & Avionics: Instruments panels cleaned and inspected, hardware and tubing replaced. re-assembled and finished with epoxy primer and paint as needed. Overhaul performed by Preferred Avionics and Instruments LLC CRS#YPCR724X. The following overhauled instruments were installed:

Attitude Gyro PN:646040 SN:A042249 WO:6352 / PN:646040 SN:85689 WO:0352. CHT PN:17B504B SN:679 WO:6353. Overhaul performed by Keystone Instruments Services Inc. CRS#BX1R050K 3 in 1 engine gauge PN:AW2 ¾-19 SN:12-416-2 & 12-416-1 WO:12-416-2 & 12-416-1. Repaired by IFL Instruments CRS#DJSR211D

The following avionics were installed. Transponder GTX327 PN:011-00490-00 SN:83745581 repaired performed by Nexair Avionics CRS#N40R087B WO:4170. Unit installed into rack PN:115-00285-00. Installed IAW Garmin I.M. 190-00-187-02 Rev. 02-01-2020. New ACK Technologies Inc A-30 Altitude Digitizer SN:151281. Installed IAW A30M Revision 06 2/11/2015. Garmin GTR200 SN:2QQ009351 Unit installed into rack 11501878-00. Installed IAW GTR200 IM:190-01553-00 Revision P 12-2020. Installed new Artex ELT345 W/antenna PN:8102 SN:31702092.
Battery SN:384739-018 and expires on: Oct 2026. Installed EA Manufacturing LLC. 4.2amp Dual USB panel mounted charging jack. Installed new CHT Gasket Probe PN:2853 SN:28222. All switches, relays, breakers and wiring were replaced with new. Installed two RG-25 12V Concord Batteries in series SN:31040918673 and 40918439. Installed new Voltage regulator PN:J12M24SP.
Engine: Installed overhauled Wright R-975-28 SN:40426. Cowling was dis-assembled cleaned and NDT inspected. Parts replaced as necessary with NOS and new made IAW NAA Drawings. All hardware replaced with new. Cowl re-assembled and finished with epoxy primer and paint as needed. Fuel Tanks and oil tanks cleaned and inspected for leaks. Performed apressure test and passed. Finished with epoxy primer and paint as needed. All fuel and oil lines were made new. Installed new fuel selector PN:FS30-T6CJ. Installed overhauled wobble pump PN:D-3 SN:46900-1 performed by S&T Aircraft Accessories Inc. CRS#CC2R737K WO:51381. Installed Airwolf Oil Filter Kit PN:AFC-K015-C. Installed overhauled Oil Cooler PN:U-3160 SN:21670. Overhaul performed by Pacific Oil Cooler Service Inc. CRS#RF3R813L WO:124315.
Propeller: Installed overhauled propeller PN:2D30 SN:29969 on this aircraft.
Accessories: Installed the following accessories on the engine. New Alternator PN:7555T SN:H-R082436. Modified Propeller governor PN:4M12-P SN:62501 Modifications performed by S&T Aircraft Accessory Inc. CRS#CC2R737K WO:67051. Overhauled Tach Gen PN:AN5531-2 SN:AF43-1506558 performed by S&T Aircraft Accessory Inc. CRS#CC2R737K WO:58954.Overhauled Vacuum Pump PN:3P-194-E SN:DG010271F performed by S&T Aircraft Accessory Inc. CRS#CC2R737K WO:57413.
Aircraft re-assembled, This included the installation of the empennage, wings, fuselage, landing gear, tail wheel, powerplant, instruments, surface control, furnishings and electrical. All flight controls rigid with installation on NOS and new made flight control cables IAW NAA drawings. Cables were pull tested and passed.
Accomplished 100 hour inspection and service this data following restoration.

Preformed ground test run of aircraft engine and all installed systems. Aircraft operation was normal with no leaks detected at this time. Test flight is required in accordance with 14 CFR Part 91.407(b). I certify that this aircraft has been inspected in accordance with the requirements of a 100-hour inspection and was determined to be in airworthy condition.
