History

54-1729 US Army #1572. L-20 No. 573. Command A-6. Delivered 18-Jun-1956. Built as L-20A and re-designated U-6A in 1962.

L-208 Air America, Vientiane, Laos. Leased from US Army. 06-Jun-1962 to 02-Oct-1962.

Service history with Air America: Aircraft was received at Bangkok on 06-Jun-1962 and operated on the Madriver Contract AF62(531)-1674, based at Vientiane, but maintained at Udorn. It suffered from structural fatigue failure-of the fuselage in the area of empennage in Laos on 14-Sep-1962 and repaired. The aircraft was to be returned to the US Army in Oct-1962 but eventually returned on 26-Jan-1963.

N5354G Civil Air Patrol, Maxwell AFB., Montgomery, AL. Regd Sep-1977.

N5354G David Oberg, Kodiak, AK. dba Uyak Air Service, Kodiak, AK. Circa 1986 – 1989. On USCAR at 02-Mar-1990 and 29-Feb-1992.

Accident: Fognak Island, AK. 30-Sep-1986. On Takeoff, the right door popped open. The pilot reached across to pull the door closed and lost directional control. The aircraft struck a tree near the bank of the lake. Aircraft suffered substantial damage. Pilot uninjured. NTSB report ANC86LA167.

Note: Total airframe hours at Sep-1986 – 6,947hrs.

Accident: Zacher Bay, AK. 23-Sep-1988. The pilot stated that during the takeoff run on the water, he lost directional control of the airplane, due to the high wind condition. The airplane’s wing tip struck the water causing the airplane to nose over on its back. NTSB report ANC88LA147.  Actually shows as N5354G and c/n 887.

Accident: Kodiak, AK. 13-Jul-1989. On a flight between Akhiok and Kodiak, crashed at 1,400 ft. into mountainous terrain whilst attempting to cross a pass in IFR weather. Pilot and one passenger seriously, four other passengers received minor injuries. Aircraft reported destroyed by fire. NTSB report ANC89LA123.
